The 11 phases in detail

Before the start, we capture the technical basis: hosting provider, PHP environment, WordPress version, active theme, installed plugins and the basic server configuration. The entire web check is purely reading — we don’t change anything about your website. If optimizations are subsequently ordered, a complete backup is of course created first, before even a single change is made.

We check the technical basis on which your WordPress installation runs: PHP version and configuration parameters (memory_limit, max_execution_time, upload_max_filesize, etc.), activated PHP extensions (Imagick, OPcache, cURL), SSL/TLS certificate and HTTPS forwarding, as well as the HTTP response headers of your server. Many performance and security problems do not have their cause in WordPress itself, but on the server level – here we start.

WordPress core, all installed plugins and the active theme are systematically checked for updates, known security vulnerabilities and version conflicts. In addition, we analyze the WordPress Site Health system completely – including all messages that are not displayed in the standard dashboard. Special attention is paid to inactive plugins (potential attack surface) and plugin interaction with each other.

We check the WordPress configuration for security-relevant parameters in the wp-config.php, the protection of sensitive files and directories (.htaccess, xmlrpc.php, wp-config.php), the login protection (brute-force protection, secure username, 2FA option) and the user role assignment. In addition, we analyze the WordPress database for autoload entries that create unnecessary server load and check the website code for anomalies that could indicate malicious code.

We document the current status of your privacy policy and your imprint with regard to the common requirements (DSGVO, §5 TMG, §55 MStV). In doing so, we compare which external services your website actually includes – and whether these are completely and correctly recorded in the privacy policy. Important: We do not provide legal advice, but document findings and indicate the need for action.

We check that the DNS records of your domain are correctly configured for secure e-mail delivery: SPF Record (Sender Policy Framework), DKIM Signature (DomainKeys Identified Mail) and DMARC Policy. If these entries are missing or incorrectly configured, your emails end up in your customers’ spam folder — or easily forge. An often overlooked but critical point.

We measure the loading time of your website with standardized tools (Google PageSpeed Insights / Core Web Vitals) and analyze the causes: caching configuration (browser cache, server-side object cache, full page cache), image optimization and lazy loading, minification and summary of CSS and JavaScript files, as well as content delivery network (CDN). Performance is not a comfort feature — it is a measurable SEO and conversion factor.

We document all integrated external services: Analytics (Google Analytics, Matomo or similar), tracking pixels, social media integrations, map services, font services and payment providers. Each of these services transmits data to external servers – with relevance for performance, data protection and loading time.

The visible part of the website is systematically used for display errors, incorrectly linked or no longer existing pages (broken links, 404 errors) and mobile devices. Compatibility checked. We test on common screen widths and in several browsers. Broken links harm user experience and SEO ranking equally.

We check the technical SEO basis: title tags and meta descriptions, correct heading hierarchy (H1–H6), structured data (Schema.org), canonical URLs, the robots.txt and XML sitemap — as well as their correct integration into the Google Search Console. In addition, we analyze the media stock: missing alt texts, unnecessarily large image files and not optimized image formats (WebP vs. JPEG/PNG).

Since the 28th June 2025, the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) applies in Germany. We check your website automatically based on the WCAG guidelines (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) – contrast ratios, semantic HTML structure, alt texts, keyboard operability and ARIA attributes. Structural problems that require a comprehensive revision are documented and displayed as a separate offer.

The result

At the end of the web check you will receive a structured, written report: all findings with evaluation according to severity (critical / important / recommended) and prioritized recommendations for action. On request, the site can be modernized on this basis with the Website Optimization 360.

The check itself is purely documentary and reading – nothing has been changed on the website yet.

Practical examples from my test zone

A bot uses a security hole in a WordPress installation and creates more than 50,000 new user profiles that contain only numbers instead of real names. Manual deletion is practically impossible. AI analyzes the problem and suggests a solution. Subsequently, the AI writes its own WordPress plugin, specifically removes the wrong users and then implements appropriate security measures. In general, AI is able to locate malicious code in websites and in many cases also to remove it.

In a booking system, new time slots for appointments must be entered regularly. AI transcribes handwritten notes or spoken language into a clean text format and enters the new dates independently into the system after approval.

A new website is to be created – with a member area and a Google Maps map showing the club locations. In addition, an external event booking system is to be integrated, and the maintenance of the website should also be possible via smartphone. AI determines the appropriate setup, sets up the necessary components and prepares everything technically necessary. At the end of the project, AI creates a comprehensive operating manual for the clients.
